ZARA – Civil courage and anti-racism work was founded in 1999 with the aim of promoting civil courage and a racist-free society in Austria as well as combating all forms of racism. The anti-racism work is based on three pillars: counselling, prevention, and public awareness. Every year, up to 1,000 victims and witnesses of racism receive legal support in the counselling centre. The counselling is free of charge, the counselling team consists of legal and socially trained consultants.
Racism is a part of everyday life in Austria. People who have been faced with racism need information, support and (legal) advice. Since January 2000, ZARA has been running a counselling centre in Vienna, where victims and witnesses can get free advice from racism. The counselling team consists of legal and socially trained consultants.

ZARA’s training and development program is a central part of ZARA’s prevention and training program. Since February 2014, it has been further developed and expanded by the newly founded ZARA Training non-profit GmbH.
